  • How do I know if my child needs a Speech-Language evaluation?
Check out the links below to chart your child's development and compare results to other same aged peers. • What should I expect during an evaluation?
Before the initial evaluation, the SLP will ask you questions about the difficulties you are seeing with your child's speech and language. The SLP will be able to tell you based on your description whether speech or language testing will be necessary. Sometimes a combination of both will be needed to accuractly discover speech and/or language therapy is warranted. After the initial interview the SLP will conduct either a screening or a full evaluation.
  • What is the difference between a screening and an evaluation?
A screening is a brief, overall look at an individual’s communication skills. It touches on all areas of speech and language, including articulation, fluency, voice, grammar, vocabulary, conversational skills, and language memory. Screenings typically take only 15-20 minutes to conduct, and only indicate whether further, in-depth testing is warranted in any specific communication area(s). On the other hand, a comprehensive evaluation is a lengthy, in-depth detailed look at an individual’s communication skills. Evaluations typically take an hour or more to administer and give specific, detailed results of all areas tested. Evaluations determine if a speech and/or language delay exists. Upon completion of a comprehensive evaluation, the parent or client receives a written report of the results, including professional recommendations.
  • Do I need a referral from a physician?
No. However, in order to be reimbursed by your insurance company we recommend obtaining a referral for speech and language therapy from your regular physician. Many physician will send in a speech and language referral with only a phone call request from the parent/caregiver.
  • Do you accept insurance?
We currently accept Anthem BlueCross BlueShield, Caresource, Passport, Molina, Humana, Tricare East, Multiplan, United Healthcare, and OH and KY Medicaid insurance holders. We are in the procress of becoming in-network with all other major insurance companies. If we are out of network with your insurance, we do provide clients with a Superbill which they may file with their insurance company to recieve reimbursement for services.
  • How often will my child receive therapy?
All therapy times are based on the individual needs of the client. We work with the family to ensure their loved one receives the optimal amount of therapy for improved outcomes. Client success is dependent on a combination of therapy, attendance, and carry-through with home programming.
  • What if my child receives school speech therapy?
School therapy is a great resource! However, often children are taken in groups which does not allow for one-on-one interaction with the speech pathologist. We are able to offer one-on-one services year-round for clients.
